Membership

Formed at California School for the Deaf, Berkeley in 1960 by a small group of concerned teachers, CAL-ED (formerly California Teachers of the Hearing Impaired (CATHI) has grown into a large state-wide organization of professionals serving Deaf and hard of hearing students. Its purpose is to improve the quality of education for all deaf and hard of hearing children.

Membership Benefits:

  • Dual membership in CAL-ED and Council on American Instructors for the Deaf (CAID)
  • Building a network of contacts with other professionals through newsletters and conferences
  • Sharing ideas with other professionals at a state-wide conference
  • Providing scholarships to future professionals in the field of deaf education
  • Advocacy and consultation on legislative and policy issues related to deaf and hard of hearing students

Membership Dues:
Professional Membership -- $70.00
(Open to all credentialed teachers)
Associated Membership -- $55.00
(Open to retired professionals, parents, interpreters and aides/paraprofessionals)
College Student Membership -- $50.00
(Open to full-time students only -- must be accompanied by a letter from University advisor)

NOTE: All membership dues are for a period of one (1) year and must be renewed annually in order to maintain a current membership status in CAL-ED.
