Special Interest Groups will take place on Friday, March 8th from 1-4pm. SIGs include Administrator, Early Intervention, Itinerant, and Special Needs. SIG registration is seperate from the overall conference registration. Please visit the registration page for more information.
Administrative SIG 1-4pm

Please save the date, Friday, March 8, 2013 for this year's Cal-Ed Administrative Special Interest Group (SIG) meeting. This meeting is designed for all administrators or Program Specialists that direct or supervise Deaf Education Programs in California. This year our meeting will be at the Marina Del Rey Beach Marriot Hotel in Marina Del Rey , CA from 1-4PM on March 8 as part of the Cal-Ed Conference from March 8-10, 2013 (see attached flyer). To register for the conference or to make hotel reservations you can go to the web site at www.cal-ed.org. If you are not planning to attend the full conference you can still attend this DHH Administrative meeting. Information for this SIG is on the web site under conference registration. The cost to attend this meeting is $10.00 if you are registering for the full conference or $25.00 if you would like to attend this Friday meeting only. We are currently developing the agenda for the meeting, but tentatively we will have presentations by the California Department of Education, Early Start, the results of the National Summit on Deaf Education, Family Project Links, and STAR Assessment Data as well as on the Common Core Standards as it relates to our Deaf students.
If you have any additional agenda items or would like to be put on the agenda for a specific topic please email either of the chairs below and we will get back to you. In addition, please help us spread the word by forwarding this email to any DHH administrators or District personnel that you feel may benefit from attending this meeting.
We are very much looking forward to seeing you in Marina Del Rey for what will certainly be a valuable meeting for everyone who supervises Deaf and Hard of Hearing Programs in California!

Special Needs SIG 1-4pm
Facilitators: Francine Metcalf, Linda Bernett and Teri Tracht- itinerant teachers with LAUSD
Come join our special interest group discussion on DHH students with special needs! Come share assessment tool ideas, goals, lessons and activities that work! We will look at how to scaffold from the state standards to meet the unique needs of our DHH students with addtional disabilities; and then jump off from there! Let's get the discussion started on how we can help our students become successful young adults giving them a bridge to an achievable level of independence.
Early Intervention SIG 1-4pm
Facilitators: Lydia Sussman, Lead Infant Teacher, LAUSD and Amy Cathcart, Infant Teacher, LAUSD
This group will identify the unique challenges of being low SES and/or English Language Learners that many of the families of California’s birth to three DHH population face.
Topics will include:
* California and nationwide statistics
* What are your specific challenges in your 0-3 population?
* How to deal with our own personal biases when a family makes decisions.
* Strategies for mentoring parents in the home visit setting
* Using assessment to determine outcomes
* How to get parents to carryover what you’ve taught them to their everyday life
Itinerant SIG 1-4pm
Facilitators: Kristy Anderson and Tina Whittaker, LAUSD
Topics will include:
*The Benefits of 'The Mobile Office'
*Best Practices of Time Management
*How Do I Organize Myself?
*The Joys of Being an Itinerant
